Sights
Scapoli is a small hilltop town at 1,208 metres above sea level, with an incredible historic citadel. It's possible to walk all the way around the citadel via vaulted loggia, which have fabulous view from the arched windows.
Fights
In Scapoli, in Spring 1944, General Umberto Utili, Commandant planned and directed the conquest of Monte Marrone and the subsequent penetration into of the Gustav Line north east of Cassino, by the Italian First Motorised Unit. This signalled the birth of the first Italian large scale combat unit of the armed forces and it's entering, in it's own right, the war for the liberation of Italy, alongside the allied forces, under the title of Italian Liberation Corps.
Bagpipes
Scapoli is famous in Italy as one of the only places in the country that still produces handmade 'zampogna' or Italian style bagpipes. There is a Zampogna museum and even an International Zampogna festival running over 4 days, every July, where you can see artisans at work and listen to musicians from all over the world playing the Zampogna. A treat for the ears!?
